I guess you’re thinking of “Portrait of Ruin”. That’s the only one of the “Metroidvanias” I haven’t finished. That one has one castle and a handful of smaller levels you can enter through paintings in there, like the pyramid, mentioned by you.

Season two was surprisingly not horrible, a big improvement. Sad that watchable is an improvement.
