I think the story with Evgenia and Pasha and their defector dad is intended to be a parallel and maybe telegraph. Consider Philip defects to the US, Elizabeth is opposed and Paige is unwilling either to go into hiding (which they must do) or alternatively defect to the USSR…

The corruption of the Soviet system.

I think his failure to read her accurately is part of a pattern that is building.

They've approached so many Soviets that perhaps KGB decided to plant a double agent on them.

That is possible, they've approached so many Soviets that perhaps KGB decided to plant a double agent on them.

An enormous amount has happened. None of it has finished. They are building up to something really amazing. Henry will be the pivotal figure.

But later he may betray Henry to the bullies at school to force his parents to defect to the Soviet Union….

Henry is the American in The Americans. He is a couch potato Hockey Player. He is also being kept under wraps by the writers because he's going to be pivotal in the final ending. He already showed with the beer bottle that he is going to fight for his family if push comes to shove.

I go to Mexico where the cost is half to a third of the US prices. It's still very expensive. As a vet I get basic cleanings and minor fllings under a dental policy that costs only $20 a month. Fortunately I live 100 km from the border.

Everyone is disillusioned. (Except Henry.) This is spiral down for everyone and they are taking the time to make us feel it too. This sets the stage for however it will end, it will end because everyone is tired and disillusioned. People will do unexpected things out of being tired and disillusioned.

They are lulling you to sleep on purpose. Wait for the explosions my friend.

Simple solution, if the licensing fees are high for something, get something else.

On the contrary I think Henry is THE American in The Americans and will play a very vital role in the rollup of the show. I can't imagine what it is but I agree with you this far: they are keeping him under wraps, they haven't forgotten him or like other shows do with kids sometimes, putting him in the background

I think the writers are lulling us to sleep. They have not forgotten Henry. They are keeping him under wraps for a special surprise.

Thus Elizabeth truly wanted to be a soviet sponsored emissary doctor to the third world, not just a day to day doc in the USSR. People say she's manipulating Paige but I expect she meant it.

No the Second World countries were the Marxist crowd. The third world were those not industrialized capitalist nor committed to marxian idealogy.

Oh you're bad!

Yeah I really think that's irrelevant, even then we called it Russia, but in this exact context Russia was part of the USSR and all accounts suggest it was not a happy prosperous place. For the average Josip anyway.

I think the real point is that Philip is disillusioned and his inability to read Deirdre correctly is a sign of disaffection with his job.

Pasha is desperately unhappy and didn't want to leave the USSR. So going back is not so difficult. In fact the easy thing to do here is for the KGB in the person of someone else to approach Evghenia and offer to take her and Pasha back to Russia. Why torture the kid? He wants to go back. Work directly on mom.
