We found a beaten up Porsche 915 transmission (the model that came in ‘72-86 911s) for cheap on eBay. It mates to the VW diesel motor via a fairly standard watercooled-VW-motor-to-aircooled-VW-transmission adapter plate (made by Kennedy Engineering since the 70s). Gotta love how aircooled Porsches still use the Beetle

Yeah, it all depends on the year. A SWB or long-hood tub might fetch $10k these days even when it’s in pretty bad shape. But the 911SC is still so ubiquitous, only ones that are in really nice shape fetch a lot of money.

And yes, we did bring the car to a C&C recently. The “new king” of C&C, as some say: http://www.spee

The TDI motor came out of a 2001 VW Jetta.

To each their own, I guess. I like building weird things. Chump’s 90 page rule book and the nickle-and-diming during inspections is a huge turn-off for me, and it encourages monoculture. Miata, BMW, Miata, BMW, BMW. That’s what a Chump field looks like, at least in California. Yawn.

IIRC the LeMons Supreme Court only exercised the buy-back clause twice in all of LeMons history, once because they were *begged*. But like the People’s Curse, this is a relic from the early days of LeMons. Nobody should be worried about it, the last thing Jay Lamm needs is a bunch of hella cheaty hoopties in front of

I think you are overhyping the 911 market a little bit. An 83 911SC that needs a motor rebuild, has some cosmetic issues, but is otherwise complete is worth about $13k. I know that because I literally just sold one exactly like that.

Yes, that’s a Bricklin. Our next race car that we’ll be unveiling soon!

Yeah ok the OM617 is a boat anchor. The VW TDI engines aren't too bad. They're about 400 lbs I think, which is about what a 911 engine will weigh in at, once you add the fan, tins, etc. They're definitely NOT light, despite being aluminium (or magnesium in the earlier ones).

Sorry, been too busy with all the dieseling. Not sure I'm going to actually go through with that. Other fun projects have opened up.

Heavy? You have no idea how much a 911 powerplant weighs...

It's a legit $500 car. If you read the linked article, you'll learn that the car had rolled and the shell was basically worthless. We sold off a crapton of the car (and the Jetta donor) to get under budget. The wiring harness, the remaining glass, interior, etc. — all that sold for quite a lot. We only had to rebuild

Yes, yes they do. Every race car should have googly eyes.

LOOK! A CONE!!!

R Gruppe you say? Almost...

Nope. Engine is in the arse, where it belongs.

Much 911 motor

Much 911 motor

So from the comments so far I've learned that we're not hot enough, not tanned enough, oh and we have penises which is TOTALLY WRONG for this kind of job, and that our parody was poorly executed. You know, when everybody here loved our diesel 911, I was a little confused. But you guys really restored my faith in the

Wait, are you saying we satirized the raceway's sexist campaign without knowing it was satire?

Finally, a hater! Honestly, I had been wondering how long it would take for one to show up. I must admit, it took much longer than I thought.

I'm actually going to try to get it street-legal. AFAIK, an '83 car converted to Diesel would not be subject to smog in California, so I'm hoping it'll be possible. That way I won't have to tow it to the PCA concours, you know...
