To require someone to be patriotic is fundamentally un-American. The freedom to publicly state, I am ashamed of my country is the most American thing there is, from the very start of this nation. This is the same mistake made 50 years ago punishing the American act of protest, to make America better.

Players can represent their country only, apparently, if they’re willing to represent the version of the country in which U.S. Soccer is most interested in selling.

Dammit Burneko now I am going to draft him way too high and I am going to be so mad about it by June.

I am bringing you out of the grays to inform you that I am in fact a lifelong Jays fan. The difference between you and me is that I have a sense of humour.

Maybe it’s an optical illusion, but I swear he’s shifting his weight *backwards* during his swing. Not even just “swinging from his heels” but actively shifting his lower half in the opposite direction of his upper half. And I don’t think you’re supposed to do that.

Ken Rosenthal is a good baseball media person, but for goodness’ sakes, writing “pain-staking” rather than “painstaking” (which, if you were going to hyphenate, you would render as “pains-taking,” because what the hell does it mean to stake pain?) is a depressing-as-shit mistake.

“Dammit”

PABLO SANDOVAL: [salivates]

It’s nice to see your political views don’t prevent you being offended by the banal exploitation of the patriotic blood sacrifice of an American.

Fun fact! The word ombudsman is of Swedish origin, and the ‘-men’ ending doesn’t correspond to the English word for a male human being; so the plural is actually ombudsmana.

Remember when people read stuff on ESPN.com?

You clicked on an article called Jake Peavy Had a Truly Terrible Year, and you’re mad that the contents of the article describe how Jake Peavy had a truly terrible year.

Now playing

This should be fleshed out into a full game.

you’re absolutely reich

That old idea of capital usage is dead. Most of this excess money is invested in arcane financial inventions which are so far removed from the bank borrowing cycle as to be irrelevant to the household and small business lending cycle.

dividends work. I never said they didn’t. But it steers wealth away from the poor and middle class. Econ 101 states you get more furniture stores when more people can buy furniture, not because more banks can offer loans. Your world sends most of the money up to let it trickle back down like gifts from benevolent econ

“Invested” should always appear in quotes. She aint starting a bunch of small business’ with that cash. It’s being traded back and forth by hedge funds for seconds at a time.

Her parking money in muni bonds doesn’t fund shit. There are other ways to get that money. For one, taxing her vast and obscene wealth and simply paying for these things rather than begging her for it like a little child asking mommy for a new toy.
