@cyruss: I agree DVORAK is scary, but surely there's some better way lying undiscovered - there must be.

@ThursdayNext: It's specifically designed to reduce the typing speed of expert typists, and hence reduce the frequency of typebar clashes (where the typing heads of the different letters collide and jam your typewriter).

The real question is why we still use the QWERTY keyboard at all. Surely we should have moved beyond a system that was created to cope with the engineering problems of mechanical typewriters by now?
