I think the problem is that oil is just too profitable. Some regions have completely hitched themselves to the oil train so they would rather pump as much as possible and reap the benefits today than reduce their exports and spread the benefits over a longer timeline.

Definitely no excuse not to have built in code reading when every car has a multifunction screen tied to some sort of microprocessor. They could very easily provide a nice text-base readout.

Another option would be a number next to it to indicate the number of faults detected. It would also be nice if they didn’t force you to get a code reader and instead just always had a “faults detected” menu.

Just to add on to your last paragraph, the place I see more assholery is in the parking lot at my kids school. Everyone wants to blast out of there like a rocket with no civility. Honking and flipping me off for backing out of parking space is absurd. We all have to get to work. I hate it so much.
