This feature is basically worthless unless the only files you have are generated by Microsoft programs. Even executables and zips can't be tagged. I really hate that they dropped the ball with this amazing feature.

meow; Unless WindowBlinds has made some vast improvements you will not be able to attain the full Aero "experience". The glass effect and much improved font-smoothing is something that (I believe) is (currently) beyond WindowBlinds. The whole 3d-accelerated part really does improve the 'feeling' of everything too. …
I'm curious, has anyone actually /tried/ the 'dirty' upgrade from XP to Vista? I wonder if MS has actually improved it... the install for Vista is amazingly simple. One click, or two, and away it goes! I re-installed XP last night and was dumbfounded when halfway through the install process it prompts me for my…
Oh, duh. Aero's obviously beautiful. That counts as a good. :)
jdsmn; The good:
One thing to note is that many modern processors require /two/ power connections from the power supply (the standard ATX connection and one small square 5V connection (I think it's 5V)). The 5V connection is typically right near the processor. I've /almost/ hit the power button without having this second power…
nick_r; Are you serious - or is that a joke?
Oh styles, how do I love thee. That (to me) was one of OpenOffice's biggest achievements over MS Word.
Chunky Bacon! Chunky Bacon! I did quite enjoy Why's Poignant Guide. The Programming Ruby book by Dave Thomas is also a nice resource and can be found for free at http://ruby-doc.org/docs/Programmi…
What an unfortunate title for this extension.
It is very interesting how wide-spread these phenomena are because these are the sorts of things that a manager is supposed to do. Sure sure, if you do your work then the manager has technically done his/her job... but they're not going to get the same kind of productivity out of you as they could if they valued and…
Bleh! The site uses Flash for all of it's navigation and critical content portions. Note this if you're using adblock to remove the scourge of the internet that is Flash.
Adobe Reader 8.0! Now you not only have time to get that cup of coffee, but you can roast the beans yourself, brew it and then drink it!
I originally read the intro paragraph and thought "Active Directory on a Mac?! YAE!"... that was quickly squashed. I wish MS could come up with original and novel names.
I'm glad to see that there are other commentators who think these are terrible too. They're entirely too busy and loud to make good backgrounds. Personally, I find that photographs rarely make good background pictures all by themselves. I've never thought of MS as being able to provide good backgrounds.
What? Seriously, who cares if your goal is "to buy a 70 inch plasma TV"? I mean, if I enjoyed the idiotic trite American television - I would have no trouble with people knowing that I was working towards seeing it in gigantic super form. Seriously, you post if you want to post. I personally don't give a flying…
It does always amaze me how few people really understand scams. I was once sitting in a room with a friend of mine who was checking her e-mail. She suddenly gets all wide eyed and looks at me; "J! This guy is offering me an amazing deal on diamonds! Should I do it?"... I was stunned and thought she was joking. …
@Jared; You may wish to look into an application called "Launchy". It's a little app that lets you type parts of the application that you want to run, and then runs it. Much like Vista's built-in start menu search thing - but faster. Just bind it to a shortcut (I like ctrl-space) and watch your start menu never get…
I'm with Joeny1980. Though I wouldn't call any part of this "science" - it's not exactly a reproducible experiment sort of thing... anyway. These sorts of surveys always give bad results, because people answer thinking of what they would ideally like - not what they are willing to take.
I'd love to see a post about a geek's best way to organize his vast forest of wires! No, I don't mean the rat's nest - I mean the wires that aren't in use (Come on! I know the rest of you have an extra 25 coils of unused cat-5!). Me? I've got mine double-coiled and hanging off of the coat hanger-rod in the closet;…
