See his prosecution of Vietnam, his probably treasonous attempts to kill peace talks while running for office, his divisive tactics around race, in addition to his overall paranoia. He was definitely a complicated figure, worthy of a Shakespearean tragedy, but all in all pretty awful.

Right, I don't actively pick up on all the homages to Coen brothers' movies. I suppose the helicopter view is kind of an inversion of Tom Reagan's walk in the woods from Miller's Crossing, or is that too much of a stretch?

My eyes rolled when she made the Love Canal comment as an obvious attempt to place the era, but within minutes she made another, similar comment with a reference that would have been timely in 1979 (I can't remember what it was), and I understood that they were making fun of that plot device. I got a good chuckle out…

They're leaving their motivations a mystery. Recall the guy who Morgan tied up saying something like "we're saving you." And how stupid was it that Carol just killed that guy? They could have interrogated him and found out more about the wolves, where they live, etc.
