I'm going to reply to this post, just for the halibut.

Nobody goes to a fast food restaurant when they "want fish". They may sometimes choose fish when they decide they want to go to a fast food restaurant, however.

And I'll throw in Lost in the Flood.

Ahh Flora. *sighs deeply*

You don't remember Nasty Nick then? When it all finished, the winner turned out to have only done it to pay for specialist medical treatment in America for a relative. At least one commentator suggested that the general public had instinctively known who the most selfless contestant was, and that's why they won.

In its heyday the Ovalteenies were kids who were members of a club/marketing gimmick. They had a song and everything ("We are the Ovalteenies!"). My mum was one in the 1930s.
CORRECTION it was apparently Ovaltineys, but they pronounced it the same.

Interesting but harsh. Happy Days was a damn fine sitcom for a while post- change and pre-shark.

A beautiful example of Muphry's/McKean's Law.

I mostly get the same impression but that Sacrifice song she did about wanting to get rich no matter what it cost and then likening it to Jesus? WTHF?

I love his description of her - so small you can hug her and slap yourself in the face at the same time.

"Let's just say if you're fond of fennel it's fine…but it's difficult to eat."

I was well aware before reading that about the street name Gropecunt Lane. But having done a bit of research I found that it was a common street name throughout England, and, shockingly to me, one of those places was a lane my student room window looked out on in my university days. I had no idea!

An American I used to work with told me that - and was confused when I told him the most common British usage. Although oddly I've heard woman use it in British TV programmes about other woman which has never rung true (Catastrophe and Fleabag).

I don't know many English woman who'll drop the C bomb, but (as has been discussed on here before) it's a word that men tend to use about men over here. Very rarely used to describe a woman.

That's a new one on me.

The Spanish version of manchego is the cheese of the gods. But not for grilling.

The cheese known in Britain as "plastic cheese".
