Between Rip, Charles Nelson Riley and Paul Lynde the '70's were apparently all about "don't ask, don't tell, middle America pretending not to see the obvious". Little kid me enjoyed these guys and old me appreciates that I started learning tolerance from them. Rest in Power,  Rip!

I say this without a hint of snark: I didn’t know Rip was still with us and I’m sorry to hear he’s gone. I am of the age that I remember him as a flamboyant curiosity during his numerous TV appearances in the ‘70s and, even though I knew at a young age that it was a good bit of schtick, he seemed to be enjoying

How does China feel about the NBA’s tanking problem?

I kind of love how China throwing a gigantic tantrum is drawing vastly more attention to the tweet and thus the issue at hand. The Streisinorand Effect.

When a tweet comes out wrong

While true that over the course of the season the Nats pen sucked a fat dick they have the benefit of having few of those terrible reliever on the post-season roster. Kyle Barraclough and Trevor Rosenthal aren’t pitching against LAD.

I say start Mad Max and bring in Sanchez if Scherzer can’t go at least 7.

Yeah, but if you watch any of these broadcasts they make those all the time. They seem to need to convince you that whatever you are watching is unique and the greatest thing ever, so you get things like “this middling-good ballplayer now has more post season wins than Don Drysdale!” Well, sure. But the guy got to

If I was the Nationals, I would basically punt Sunday’s game as far as pitching goes. Start someone not named Corbin, Sanchez, Strasburg, Scherzer and make it a bullpen game as none of your studs are going to be rested.

Per Fangraphs, the Nationals had MLB’s 2nd best ERA for starting pitchers and their starting pitchers led MLB in WAR.  Max, Stras, Corbin, and Anibal are among the elite rotations in MLB.

This article is incredibly melodramatic per the situation. Hudson has a below 1.00 era in 26 innings since joining the Nats - I’d say he can be counted on. And you neglect to even mention Patrick Corbin, who has been one of the ten best starters in the NL pretty much all year. Not to mention Anibal Sanchez who has

Hard disagree on Scherzer and Strasburg being the only two guys to fall into “best guys”category considering Corbin is one of the best left handers in the league...

When you said “matador”, I hadn’t noticed the actual matador standing next to the Toronado (what can I say? My eyes go straight to the car), so I thought you were refering to these:

I like it, but again who in their right mind thinks modern wheels on classics is a good thing? Anytime I find myself watching Mecums on TV the most common thought I have (besides when will my takeaway order be ready so I can leave) is “Nice car, but its a shame about those wheels.”

Agreed. Don’t give up an out trying to draw a throw.

Maybe, but I’m pretty sure they throw home if they think they have any chance of stopping the runner there. Keeping it a tie game is way more valuable than preventing the runner from advancing to third. I can believe it was intentional, but I’m not sure it was a good decision.

It’s an error, but I just don’t think it’s very egregious. And while I don’t think anything is anybody’s fault here, why isn’t the narrative “Josh Hader isn’t going to forget this one for a long time”? A big arm with a 2 run lead, 2 outs and a man on 1st should bring that one to the 9th intact. Can’t do much about the

The error was nothing, they lost because they got Bad Hader who couldn’t hit his spots. Even if Grisham had fielded it cleanly, it’s still tied and there’s no reason to think that Hader was going to get the next man out. Even the “HBP” shouldn’t have happened, because he couldn’t command his pitches. Leave Trent alone!

The truth is that almost every relief pitcher is actually not very good, and small sample sizes lead people to think otherwise.

I just got home from the game, and the roar after Soto hammered that pitch to right was unquestionably the loudest sound I have ever heard.  It’s easy to get hyper-cynical in DC these days (or anywhere really), but that was a very cool sports moment.
