when you first got an IUD/came off the pill?

That was my experience after coming off the pill and being back to my “normal” self after ten years on birth control. It was shocking, to say the least. I was hormone-free for about eight months and in that time I felt way more emotional, but also like a fog had been lifted from my mind.

I just got a Mirena in August. I think I may have had some unusual crying spells here and there the first few months, but now the times I am in a bad mood seem to be unrelated to hormonal/IUD issues, so it should get better! Though if it doesn’t, don’t be afraid to tell your doctor that you may want another form of

Oh my SOUL! I swear, women’s medicine is still crazy and crappy. I should pitch an article to Jezebel “Having an Abortion Saved My Life” or alternately and more productive “Planned Parenthood Saved My Life!”. I mean, both would be true in multiple senses.

Yea it’s not a bad idea to just get it on her radar in case you’re still not happy in a month or two.

I was a WRECK when I got off of hormonal BC. For 6-9 months. It’s a bumpy road, but considering you’ll probably end up wanting to get off of it at some point, it’s an inevitability. Hopefully you are luckier than I was!

“The GOP came up with this to counter the ACA making all BC covered!”

Those months off were only because it was such an ordeal to actually get a damn appointment! But yeah, the worry free sex is A+... and the pill killed my sex drive, so I’m super glad to have that back.

You are not a terrible feminist for opposing this! The GOP came up with this to counter the ACA making all BC covered! The GOP pretended this was their “We don’t have a war on women” BS! By making BC OVC that would mean that it wasn’t covered by ACA, so big Pharma could charge more. These are hormones that affect real

I just got Mirena in December too. It’s been a month now, I’ve been spotting/mini periods all over. Definitely some increased irritation. The cramps in the first 2 weeks were brutal since I normally have very light periods with almost no cramping. I don’t know how much longer till my body reaches its new normal but

I got my IUD after giving birth. Six weeks of post-pregnancy bleeding followed by eight weeks of IUD-related bleeding. I almost had the thing removed. I’ve had it for over two years now with no further complaints though.

I agree. I got switched from one type of BC pill to another when my insurer changed their formulary. I got really moody, my boobs were sore all the time, and my hair lost all its curl. I went off it since I didn’t need it at the time. Later, I was on one that worked for me, but I started having lots of side effects

Me too with the over the counter thing! I feel like a really terrible feminist for saying that but this isn’t aspirin. It can have really serious side effects. The one they’re testing right now is progestin only but it’s a trial to see if they can get a combo pill out. It makes me nervous.

I went off the pill after my long time boyfriend broke up with me, then got a copper IUD a few months later. I was sensitive emotionally (an impending work layoff/job hunting didn’t help) but didn’t notice additional mood swings with the IUD. The first few months I was crampy, though

I didn’t have bad mood issues with mine, but I was off the pill for a good six months before I got it, so I guess I had a chance to even out before then. BUT, the worst of my post-insertion effects only lasted about two weeks (cramps and heavy spotting). It took about 6 weeks for the spotting to stop 100%, but the

I got mine a month ago after some serious Jezzie encouragement. Thanks guys! Went with Skyla. I love it. Sex life is so much better. I do think I get a little more emotional lately but that could be a combo of dread for 1/20 and that I’ve been on pill since I was 16 so I don’t really know how I am emotionally without

Maybe you could try a progestin only pill to see if it causes outbreaks? I dunno, my skin got better on the combo pill but then I went nuts and my entire pelvis imploded two weeks out of every month. Estrogen gives me fabulous skin but it wasn’t worth it in the end.

I went from decades on the pill (taking them straight through, before Seasonale and the like even existed) to a Mirena. The beginning was really squirrely, but I leveled out within 3 months or so.

Not really pushed out, more or less fell out. But I’m also an exceptional case. This is my fifth Mirena. My first one, pre-baby, stayed in for four and a half years. It was the best thing ever, I would not be on number five if it wasn’t.

This is what I’m concerned about, getting an IUD. That my skin will go bonkers. My combo pills keep my acne in check; I’ve been through a couple brands to find one that works the best. Maybe the implant would be the way to go?
