Dwigt, very good analysis. I always described Bedazzled as a party game movie, in that - as you say - each wish had to top the last. With that comic structure and energy in place, it's very hard to wind things up with an emotional, meaningful payoff. God bless Harold for trying - but it's not a successful fit.

Actually, I think I was trying to say that the original Bedazzled was just "pretty good" as opposed to being the enduring work of genius some comedy nerds think it is. It's wildly brilliant - but it really hasn't aged well. But please - I'm not saying the remake is in any way an improvement. Both films suffer from

The poster above is completely correct; Shields & Yarnell did the robot act. Even as a kid it made me uncomfortable. So my story is only partially accurate. We were, in fact, referred to as a "bush league Monteith & Rand," but now I realize I have no real idea of what their act was nor the quality of that act.
