Whilst I agree that the UK’s combat aircraft numbers are not what they once were, numbers aren’t everything.

SDSR 2015 committed to 138 F-35s, but it didn’t specify F-35Bs, leading to rumours that the UK may acquire a mixed fleet of F-35As and Bs - the A replacing the Tornado, and the B for the carriers.
