I read like a voracious word slut. I will do anything for a character that gets under my skin, for a wordsmith that spins a tale. Fuck that - poetry is my favorite tryst.

So if it were a Republican accused of rape who was the target of left-wing attacks would you view them with “heightened scrutiny”? ...you know the answer to that, absolutely not.
You’re pathetic. You know very well that if the politician being accused had an R next to his name you would be totally 100% on the alleged victims side. You’re confused because having a Democrat win is more important than rape victims... disgusting.
I’m forced to wear a shirt. I’m forced to wear pants or a skirt. I’m forced to wear shoes. If we include shame and public disapproval as measures, I’m also forced to wear a bra and dress shoes to many occasions.
Covering the “letter” of the law is de rigeur for a lot of Judeo-Christian-Islamic traditions. Visiting the Greek monasteries, women had to put these large stretchy “skirts” over their clothing if they were wearing pants, other religious places it is necessary for women to keep their shoulders covered, I have never…
My best friend lives in Egypt and is Muslim and neither she nor any of her close female friends are wearing hijabs or abayas. Neither is her mother, by the way. But, sure, every single Muslim majority country is totes the same.
I live in a Muslim majority country too- trust me, it is indeed an option. I can tell you missed that buzzfeed article on Nigerian Wedding dresses. Whilst I do not intend to belittle your experiences in Sudan there is an ongoing problem with people equating Arab or Saudi with muslim and assuming we are all the same.
I don’t know enough about Islam to respond from that perspective but I am Jewish and I cover my hair for religious reasons. I use really beautiful colorful scarves and for special occasions I put in jeweled clips. As I suspect it is in Islam, hair covering in Judaism is as much socio-cultural as it is religious and…
Men in the USA are arrested for wearing no shirts, too short running shorts, butt cracks and saggy pants.
Oh my gosh, the ignorance, it bleeds through your comment. You need to travel more. Fyi, there really arent that many Muslims in Saudi Arabia, most Muslims are from places like Indonesia, India, pakistan, Nigeria etc, there are the same number of muslims in China as there are in Saudi Arabia. Also if you knew anything…
Optional only for a few??? You do realise that the muslim populations in India, Nigeria and Indonesia as well as other countries dwarf that of middle eastern nations. Only about 20% of muslims are Arab. China has the same number if msulims as Saudi Arabia. Just because the IranI government or the Saud family or…
60% of university students in Saudi are women, but you’d know that if you actually did your research. And let’s not even talk about all the women who wear abayas and hijabs outside of the country of Saudi Arabia - without any of the restrictions that you believe exist in the Arab world...
Yep. There are plenty of American towns where I will be arrested for not wearing a shirt as a female. This does not mean talking about how much I love my sweater is bowing to the patriarchy.
I mean...clothing in general is optional only for a few, but that doesn’t stop people from wanting to talk about it?
Yes, I always find it weird when Westerners assume Arab Muslim women are plain and drab. Living in Gulf countries, they’re some of the most fashionable women on earth, spend a ton of money on designer clothes and usually have flawless makeup as well. I found it really hard to keep up with the level of glamour.
Nope, I don’t think Surfboard is trolling.
I was gonna say...most of the hijab I’ve seen around are gorgeous colors or patterns with pretty clips or headbands. There was a woman who worked at Nordstrom who I saw every few months who always had a different hijab. Her make up was always flawless too which I guess makes sense since a hijab puts your face right in…
Ignored? Apparently nobody here has ever been to a mall in Dubai. There is a *huge* high-end designer market for Muslim women outside the West.
Abayas are the best thing in the world guys. When you haven’t showered or don’t look fresh for whatever reason, just throw one of these on over your clothes and you instantly look put together and chic, they’re so comfy too. Just the other day my sister was taking birthday pictures at home. I came late and covered in…
It’s so weird to me that people are surprised by this. As a Muslim woman I constantly see incredibly fashionable Muslimas and I’m like “damn... I really should get out of my pajamas more often and up my game.” I’m a lazy Muslima when it comes to fashion but when I do go out in actual clothes most people don’t even…
