Wanted to confirm this was posted, thank you for confirming my faith in io9! I shouldn't love that song as much as I do, but it's just so darned catchy.

We just lost my husband's One True Kitty Love, it's so hard. I'm sorry you lost your cat. I hope you find another furry friend.
I'm an outlier, because struggles with my back absolutely led to an issue. I don't think that it was the doctor's fault, but I would have greatly benefited from more initial education as well as a plan to get me off of them on the other side. Unfortunately, the usual doctor response to a patient who says they might be…
Seriously. I wish every white adult in the US would see it.
I've heard that, about Hawaii etc. But it really would be delicious if, once Google gets around to lidar'ing it they found it was actually shorter than one of the other peaks. That would have me stocked in schadenfreude for at least a month.
How can that even feel like an amazing acheivement if you have to que up like at Disneyland? Having a transcendent experience, you and the mountain I can wrap my head around, but I simply don't get it. There are, what 7 other 8k mountains? Climb one of those.
It's absolutely shameful. I'm not the sort to climb mountains or jump out of airplanes, so I can't really comment on why people do this kind of incredibly dangerous stuff, but the way Everest is treated makes me nuts. It just affirms that having tons of disposable income isn't good for anyone. I understand getting up…
I completely agree with you. I've been thinking Aliens! for several episodes. I too think they're being pretty obvious.
I'm also far closer to 40 than I'd like to admit and I adored that movie, but I was in the minority. Most folks found it tropetastic and overly schmaltzy. Me? I felt like it went right to the heart of an entire generation of boomer dads who checked out of fatherhood. It really spoke to me. I'm very glad it's now so…
I just inhaled the whole series thus far over the weekend and up until that point I was very attached to the romance of Olivia and Fitz, having experienced that same love at first sight/passion/hunger for my husband of nearly 10 years. I really identified with that soul deep longing etc. But when Fitz said that about…
I was raised by a statistician who made sure I could grasp when a poll was shady but the thing I always get hung up on is landline vs cell. How the heck do they ensure accurate sampling of folks under, what, 40? I used to get all sorts of survey calls when I had a landline but haven't received a single survey call…
A case could be made that the cultural differences between states are almost as pronounced as those between European countries. For instance there is quite a gulf between California and Arkansas. Obviously the different languages throughout Europe add a significant component absent in the United States, but I…
Thank you for such a thoughtful response. I'm in the Bay Area, which made me particularly surprised by the shenanigans we were seeing and experiencing. Maybe it's the affluence, we sure do have a large share of entitled arrogance on all fronts.
Could you give a hint? My Google fu is failing me.
Conceptually, I agree with you-AA has been a godsend for many suffering people. Unfortunately, because 12-step programs have become the only option in many areas (around 90% of treatment centers utilize the AA/NA methodology), it becomes extremely difficult to find another choice to try. When studies have been…
Golly, I sure wish I and my family had the same sort of experiences that you have had. While it helped my dad, I watched it completely destroy my sister and betray my brother-in-law. Then I was heavily 13 stepped, but I kept hoping what you say is true, that none of us had found the right home meeting. I even…
Why are you so angry at people for knowing what works for them? AA really doesn't work for a sizable percentage of the population and the total 12-step hegemony is harmful. It works beautifully for some, like my dad. It's also very wrong for others, like myself. I think it's very useful for some men but quite damaging…
I completely agree with you. With my dad it was pretty clear that he just swapped his drinking for AA. Mostly I'm just sad for all of the needless pain out there. Society says, essentially, you have an addiction? 12-step for you! Then you realize it just does not work for you and now you've failed at recovery on top…
Suboxone is an absolute godsend for opiate addicts and does not get you high, as opposed to methodone. I'm very sad to see you say otherwise, you do opiate addicts a disservice. It is a wonder drug for the hardest to treat addiction. It allows an addict to avoid the awful physical withdrawal as well as keeps them from…
I completely agree with you. AA reflects the time in which it was developed; minimal knowledge about psychology and a simple world view. We would be so much further along with addiction medicine had AA not gained such a thorough monopoly on recovery.
