I don't think more than two weeks goes by without some little treat brought home. Perhaps my favorite candy or tea, a bunch of flowers. My spouse has been doing this since we met nearly 12 years ago. We also touch each other constantly, always have, now I have scientific proof to get my family to stop being grossed

He was in intensive care with daily radiation treatments. Plus, I believe hospitals have many different schedules of payments contracted with insurance companies. What I received was the 'standard' cost, not what the insurance company actually paid. That is generally much lower.

This is true even for relatively young people. My dad passed away over the summer at 59 (cancer), and the last week of his life cost $350,000 in billing to his insurance company. Of course, you don't know that when you're in intensive care and the doctors are presenting you with 'options' without really talking to you

Please site your reference.

But fat cats are the cutest kind of cats! I know, it's bad for them, and that's why we keep our furry-purries on a diet ... but I do miss big giant fluffy cats.

Yup. I grew up in a sugar-free house and as soon as I had my own money I went nuts. Pretty much all of my babysitting money went to junk food. It wasn't until I was in college and in charge of my own grocery purchases that I stopped with the Dr. Pepper/Potato Chip/HoHo lunch. Now the thought makes my tummy do flip

Reading this made me happy (not because of your feelings of struggle but because it made me feel less alone and crazy in my way of thinking). Today I spent way too much time arguing with folks on Gawker about privilege and was confounded by the amazing amount of "la la la la I can't hear you I deserve everything I

I'm sad to hear that and I'm sorry that happened to you. I hope you never have a next time!

Whoa. There are more than 500 comments and this post has only been up for two hours!

I am so with you. I like life. I'm 'pro' life in the literal interpretation of the words. Anti-Choice is a much more accurate term than Pro-Life. That was pure marketing genius from the crazy-pants right.

There has to be an entry point, though. People's brains aren't really able to latch on to a sea of suffering. Malala gives a face and a story for the world to follow, so that we might better comprehend what is happening to women in these regions. I'll take a media event over silence any day of the week.

It makes me so sad too. I've had two very positive experiences with police and at least a dozen experiences that ranged from "What a dick" to "Did that cop really just threaten me and my family with reprisal?" It's gotten to the point where I would not to go the police if my house were burgled because I'm afraid of

I'm really glad to hear that. There are good ones out there.

In this particular case they destroyed a great many of the records and went to some pretty nutty lengths to cover up their crimes. After escape attempts at Sobibor and Treblinka they shut the death camps down and razed them to the ground (apart from Auschwitz). Then, 2? years later they went back and dug up all the

In the last decade or so there has been a flood of new information as archives in Eastern Europe are finally open to researchers and scholars of the period. In 2005 the BBC did a 6-hour documentary about the Holocaust that looked at it from the perspective of the construction and running of Auschwitz. It's available

There was a made-for-tv movie about her, "Out of the Ashes" staring Christine Lahti. It's quite good for a made-for-tv film, delves into the profound guilt almost all survivors struggle/d with.

This is an excellent book, tackling one of the 'Big Questions' of Nazi Germany; how did civilized people commit such sadistic, horrific crimes? It's a good counterpoint to "Hitler's Willing Executioners."

While I agree with you theoretically, I'm not seeing it in this case. Would you be willing to indicate where you see this? It doesn't seem like 'white man's burden' crap to me, but you're seeing something else. I'd like to understand. Thank you.

Very good point!
