Noted.

I’d love to see that sign made into a shrine of some sort, to shame those who shot it up.

I agree with QueenVictoria—but only if we are vigilant.

White people excuse this with, “There are bullet holes on all sorts of things because people just like shooting at stuff.”

yeah im in agreement here. pretty sure we all know who emmet till is so I think this was targeted for a reason not just dickhead vandals

JFK?

After seeing this, I’m thinking the perpetrator is a relative of Milam’s. It’d definitely fit the M.O.

People are stuck in the past(especially the south) and doesn’t even know it.

Texas killed my president.

I wish they had a material that would deflect bullets back onto the person who fired them and make the sign out of it.

All I can think of is how scared Emmett Till must have been through the whole ordeal. The fear and the pain. And then these scumbags deface his memorial. They were cowards back then. Bunch of adults murdering a boy. They’re cowards now. Just a bunch of shit-kicking redneck cowards just like their parents and

I agree with the change. But my biggest fear, that came true, was that the “Let Trump win, it’ll lead to the revolution!” types (whom I saw and heard around kinja sites and in real life) would get their wish.

Honestly- It makes me kind of glad Trump won. Not that I’m happy about any of the godawful horrorshow he’s inflicting on us, but because polarized blowback is pretty much the strongest force in our political system right now.

Well, you (DA/Police) have to determine, whether it was road rage, plain assholery, drug or other deal gone bad, or specifically because of race/sexuality or gender. (Gender based hate crimes seem to be the rarest charged in my recollection, but idk.)

Well, sucks to be you, then.

I think this is the hate crime case I am thinking of, where the victim’s memorial plaque/marker (for lack of a better term) gets constantly vandalized, but the killers’ birthplace doesn’t

Never go full Texas.

The vandalism might actually qualify as a hate crime or an act of intimidation, given who and what the sign commemorated.

In my home country, a certain type of arseholes spray on certain remembrance stuff, but - oh wait, no-one has guns. This is a situation so unique to the US and it’s so freaking scary.

You know those people are trash and you’re surprised when they act like garbage?
