I found an interesting ‘parable’ of sorts describing this in, of all places, a tabletop role-playing game sourcebook. The “Enthroned Devil” Maxim emphasizes that evil rarely remains as an ‘equal’ among the poor and unlettered for very long; the higher the social position or level of income generating ‘evil’, the more

Dunno how well this will play, here, but the very possibility of Ms. Brown getting appointed to the SCOTUS makes a particular song start up in my head.
(FYI: it’s from an anime series from the early 1990s called “Bubblegum Crisis” and it is NOT ‘light and fluffy’ by any stretch of the imagination.)
Which one, you may

Personally, I take a degree of cold comfort from the fact that they are lashing out this desperately; if the country were not heading into a bright, beautiful future based on ideals that they completely reject (multiculturalism, respect for all sexualities, abandonment of using ‘income’ as a measure of a person’s

Exactly. This is the real bedrock under the otherwise completely-irrational insistence that the 2020 election ‘was stolen’. They genuinely believe that any and all election results that put anyone but the ‘right people’ in power cannot be legitimate... because the ‘right people’ would ONLY vote for them.

Exactly. “MY comfort/privilege is vastly more important than YOUR lives and psychological health” apparently.

Nifty-pifty. I’m still drowning in debt and the only place I can afford to shop for any kind of alcoholic beverage is in the clearance section of my local H-E-B. 99 cents per can is the absolute cap, but I can occasionally get something for slightly north of 50 cents per can.

Heh. I’ve encountered difficulties with the ‘simple’ Imperial system on a daily basis. I mix 1/3 cup of milk with 2 eggs as my basis for both omelets and French toast. But what if someone wants 3 eggs? I don’t have a measuring-cup that lists ‘1/6 cups’ so I wind up eyeballing the midpoint between 1/3 and 2/3, but

Heh. There’s all kinds of links between Christianity and beer; consider all those monasteries that, to this very day, raise funds by brewing suds. They also save money by giving up food for Lent (and survive on specially-fortified beer).

It’s spread pretty widely. I live in a rural part of southern Texas and we had display-stands of the stuff at all our local convenience stores and grocery stores. I missed my chance to try the ‘real’ stuff in the first wave, and I won’t touch ‘sugar-free’ sodas, so... *shrug*.

Meanwhile, Kit Kat smiles wryly at the adorable antics of the amateur latecomers to the ‘flavor variety’ party...

I rather expect that Coca-Cola is still smarting from the “New Coke” fiasco. Yes, they need to innovate in order to remain a viable market presence, but one could also argue that they have literally addicted their fan-base to their product. Given that the stuff is demonstrably toxic, but over a much longer timeframe

As Billy Joel put it: “Keep it to yourself, it’s my life”.

Yeah... We Americans really should give up and join the rest of the world in universal metric-system use. Unfortunately, barring legislation at the Federal level that makes one-way conversions to metric mandatory, it won’t happen. We tried to convert back in the 1970s, but because there was no consequence for

Ugh...

Societies collapse under the unsustainable weight of their own delusions rather often, in terms of the ‘grand epic of human history’ and on scales measured in terms of centuries. If the majority of politicians and ‘captains of industry’ in the U.S. will not accept the fact that ‘unlimited resource extraction’ from the

I really, really hope that this takes off. Unfortunately, my bitterly cynical side insists that it will face vicious opposition from every possible direction, up to and including state-level legislature to forbid ‘civilian interference’. What manner of dog-whistles will get blown to justify this occlusion of

I agree whole-heartedly. More to the point, the prospect of progressives doing exactly that is why so many Republican-dominated states have passed so many restrictions on voting. It is entirely possible that we may literally need to watch ‘this generation pass away’ before these rights get enshrined into Amendments.

Ah, but only the CORRECT laws. Note, please, how few Republicans support those states who have legalized marijuana, and how often they advise Federal intervention in such states.

It’s a classic bit of rhetorical misdirection, incorporating the dog-whistle of “states’ rights” to which altogether too many Americans have been conditioned to respond favorably.

Because the alternative to ‘action’ is to watch the situation grow worse at an increased pace. It is possible, however unlikely, that the regressives can still be defeated with finality, but ONLY through means more persistent then their own. I, myself, lack the social acumen to handle a stint in public office, but
