Ha! Fair enough. Unfortuantely all the CEOs I’ve known have worked as many hours as everyone else in their employ, if not more, even when they are supposed to be “on vacation.”

But no amount of raise will give you a THREE MONTH vacation!
I’d say they want permanent subjugation of half the population? It’s a feature, not a bug.
I don’t know that it can beat short vacations with alcohol, but it will be close!
Shouldn’t he like be trying to figure out what the Secretary of Energy is supposed to be doing?
Ahahahaah I don’t condone book vandalism as like, a general policy, but I think I can make an exception for someone who made it their life’s mission to go around ripping out the ending of every copy of Ethan Frome, to spare other humans the mindblowing idiocy of same.
The Red Badge of Courage was awful! So incredibly dull and the symbolism so trite and obvious and just, not interesting at all.
I’m sincerely sorry that you were assigned ANY Ayn Rand in school. JFC those books are terrible!
I’ll fight you on Ethan Frome (especially because I like many of Wharton’s other books!), but I can’t argue that Moby Dick is fucking awful.
I think that’s the right interpretation and how I was voting as well.
Right, it can be hard! So why is this ranked highly?
Ooh that is also a good (and by good I mean horrible) choice! Unfortunately I will remember “jouncing the limb” for the rest of my days, but not any actual useful information about anything.
Oh god, if I have to eventually choose between box wine and going to bed hella early, I don’t know what I’ll do!
Yeah, I’m confused by the reading entries on both sides of the bracket, honestly. I loved “being forced to read” in school because well, it wasn’t forcing at all 98% of the time and even when it wasn’t strictly voluntary, it was generally for my betterment as a human*, so I appreciate it in retrospect. I think this is…
Eh, it seems like most people who want to have kids have them anyway and try to deal with these problems after the fact. I’m not that worried.
Not gonna lie, I’m pretty ambivalent about kids and the existence of this book (and the resulting comments here) do NOT inspire confidence. I’m already neurotic about cleanliness and while mr. perdue is really excellent about sharing chores 50/50, I fear that delicate balance could be so easily upset with a baby.
Reading this makes me feel like I was terrible at being a kid. Never have I ever honestly wanted to eat candy for dinner (or in lieu of any other meal). Also why is wearing a retainer ranked so highly? Did anyone enjoy orthodontia? Applying for college was stressful, so I don’t get that either.
As a lover of speculative fiction/sci-fi and period dramas who would love to see more diverse casts telling more interesting stories, I am 100% here for this. Take my money!
I’m a lawyer and I came here to post this. I’m glad I wasn’t alone!
I can’t decide which party I would rather see lose!
