That is disappointing.

This comment led me to google "great American novels" lists to see how many of them were letting diversity in and how many weren't.

Whaaaat? How are Hank and Marie on your "live" list? There is no one I have hated on this show as consistently as those two. Hank especially. Seeing him die was like seeing everyone who ever used a badge as an excuse to be a bully burned in effigy.

I keep trying to decide if I would have been okay with Vulcan being blown up if Spock's mother had survived, then I wonder if I would have been okay with Spock's mother dying if Vulcan hadn't been blown up. Then I realize that if you kill Spock's mother you pretty much have to blow up a planet to show the significance

Two boxes on my Oblivious Racist Bingo card: "I don't mean any offense" and "I'm just saying what most people think." He didn't mention "political correctness" but it's there in spirit.

WHAT? Isn't that like saying "life's not fair" when you do something awful?

I really get the impression that he is more a deconstruction of "badass" characters than a "badass."

One of the wonderful things about compassion is it doesn't need to be earned. (Augh, sounds like it belongs on a bumper sticker in some tourist trap shop, I know. But truth.)

This comment sums up most everyone's reaction I think.

Relevant to this discussion—I think one of the best, most concise pieces of advice on gender and character comes from Extra Credits (if there is a better webshow on video games anywhere, I haven't seen it yet). Their episode on True Female Characters, (while a bit binary in it's understanding of sex) is well worth a

That is so, so good to hear. It's not just important for the patient's comfort/mental well being, it's going to make a huge difference in the quality of communication, and as a result, the quality of care received.

The point that I think needs to be made is: sure, some women do like it, and that's just fine. There's nothing wrong with liking it.

Of course it's her decision and her body to do as she wishes with, but isn't the real issue here that she was pressured to look "less Chinese?" That getting plastic surgery reinforcing a euro-centric body ideal advanced her career, rather than the mere fact that she had plastic surgery?

Thanks! And yeah, Jew here, but I have friends who are practicing Christians. I totally know this isn't the sum total of the faith—it just seems like a destructive culture that's clustered up in some areas of the religion.

It really makes me sad to hear that. And kind of makes my skin crawl. The implication that sex is something that a wife should "give" her husband whether she wants it or not, that it's a "burden..." Jesus.

Hey, I don't have any kids and I'm out of school. I have no use for public schools at all now. So why should my tax dollars go to fund schools for somebody ELSE'S kids?

This is no surprise...but out of curiosity, where did you read that? I would really love to hear first person stories about trying to adjust to a sexually active life after being raised with that kind of hard line perspective....

Oh wow...reading more about the subject now. The fact that Darren Davis responded to accusations by saying "they at least have a professional entry for their portfolio that can use to get other jobs in the industry" really makes my blood boil.

Really? I did not know that at all. Thank you very much for telling me—I was only aware of them as a company that produces mediocre biographical comics. I'll make sure others I know are aware of this.

Knew it would be a BlueWater comic. Not that that makes it any less cool :) I'd read it.
