Can someone explain to me when the anthem became about the troops as opposed to representing the country as a whole?

If my husband was too dumb to find his way out of a locker room, I’d keep it to myself.
He wasn’t sitting to disrespect the country. He was sitting, and then kneeling, because he believes the country could be better. “If you don’t like it, leave” isn’t in the Constitution. Freedom of speech is. The freedom to the government for redress of grievances is.
You need to seriously evaluate what it means to be a citizen of this republic. Try watching the video again, it might be helpful.
You can’t have a state of perpetual war and a police state without marketing to teenagers and getting them to sign up and convincing the populace that they are doing their duty by performing empty gestures.
So true, the way people, especially in sports, bend over backwards to “thank the troops” is ridiculous. They’re no better or worse than any other profession (well, I’d argue many public service jobs besides military are far better).
Yep. I have a friend who spent two years in Burkina Faso with the Peace Corps, at a time when some of the most terrifying Islamist militias on earth were fighting and killing just over the border in Mali. He suffered more privations, and probably did more long-term good for the United States, than someone filing…
Remember his feud with the Khans?
this is the cause: gerrymandering is a huge problem in NC (and elsewhere)
It’s like how the president must always wear a flag pin and must always end any address with “god bless America.”
And this is what happens when you treat healthcare like a fucking business.
I know what you’re saying so I’m not intending to take you to task. But it should be mentioned that the W presidency really set the table for a lot of what has made the Trump presidency so absurd and awful.
Costas is on point—you can’t celebrate anything in this country anymore without first thanking the troops (and to a lesser extent, first responders).
Pat Tillman and two others were fired upon for almost 15 straight minutes by friendlies until his brain was blown out along with an interpreter. The government then went thorough great lengths to cover it up. Just remember that during the anthem.
I remember reading about his funeral and the likes of Maria Shriver (First Lady of California at the time) and John McCain were talking about Pat being with God. Then his brother came up and talked about how Pat wasn’t religious and said he isn’t with God but “he’s just fucking dead.” Then he took the pint of beer he…
What is your point? That being stupid and misleading the public with false information directly due to the stupidity is okay as long as the stupid person can play a sport?
Lmao. I was an Academic All American and Big East champion as well bud. Reading books and playing sports aren’t mutually exclusive. I don’t expect him to be knowledgable on all subjects. No one is, myself included. But if you’re going to run your mouth about it, you better know what you’re talking about.
Screw you, Redford! I will continue to use Pat Tillman as I patriotically rock out to Springsteen’s “Born in the USA!”
I don’t understand how you can vote for Obama and then the man that tried to oust him by starting that birtherism nonsense, and who is basically a white supremacist bred by white supremacists.
