Can someone explain to me when the anthem became about the troops as opposed to representing the country as a whole?

He wasn’t sitting to disrespect the country. He was sitting, and then kneeling, because he believes the country could be better. “If you don’t like it, leave” isn’t in the Constitution. Freedom of speech is. The freedom to the government for redress of grievances is.
