True, but maybe your family is not typical in their holiday gift spending patterns. There’s definitely a bell curve if you ask around. For example, other folks buy stuff all year long, so big holiday gifts aren’t a huge deal.

Nope- that was more of a problem in the past. Newer HDTVs can indeed send along 5.1 via digital optical from certain sources. YMMV. Pass through is the issue though.
