I didn’t get that at all.  Boyd was running his bullshit on Raylan, and I think Raylan just listened to it.  Raylan was keeping Ava’s secret.  I don’t know what the showrunners intended, but I hope Raylan never considered Boyd anything but a menace.

Justified was really good, but it had weak seasons near the end (the Florida plot) and there were plenty of headscratching changes in character motivation.
