No. They’re a fad destined to “pewter” out. Heh. Er, copper. OH, fuggedaboudit.

Dammit! I want at least a NOD to the classic Power Man uniform - tight blue pants, gold pirate shirt and inverted tiara. With a chain belt.
Yes. That is the argument. You just restated it.
Wait, what? The thought experiment does not suppose that the “room” is Chinese and has any responsibility for what is going on. It merely supposes that the room is a sort of translation device. The people feeding the questions in Chinese characters are Chinese, but the “mind” doing the “translation” work is not. It is…
It’s not, it’s based on Xenophon’s Anabasis - in which “Stranded deep in Persia, the Spartan general Clearchus and the other Greek senior officers were then killed or captured by treachery on the part of the Persian satrap Tissaphernes. Xenophon, one of three remaining leaders elected by the soldiers, played an…
Neither of those are particularly good as scotch goes. The Balvenie doublewood though....
Since when is 34 inches chubby? I haven’t seen 34 since I was in college.
It was clearly taken from the Jewish bar mitzvah ceremony.
Zootopia was not a great movie, but the one thing I really admired about it is that every species was considered “other” (or was discriminated against). The rabbits weren’t good enough to be cops, the carnivores were untrustworthy killers, the smaller animals weren’t allowed to have “big animal” treats, etc., etc.,…
In the book (yes, novelization, but actually written by Earl Mac Rauch, the screenwriter and creator of BB) he explains what the watermelon is doing there. So that’s already spoiled. You need not fear it.
“Male Mary Sue”, or “Gary Stu” is actually the whole POINT of the character. It was poking fun of Doc Savage and similar characters from the pulp days. Doing away with that aspect would ruin the character.
I think the biggest two reasons were: 1) No comedy. If you’re going to set the show on an SNL-like comedy show, you kinda have to show the skits and 2) It came right after The West Wing, which was a show about earth-shattering, grave situations and Aaron Sorkin wrote Studio 60 as though the problems of this crappy…
The problem with passing the books’ narrative, is that Weiss and Benioff are Hollywood hacks and, when left to their own devices, fall back on standard Hollywood tropes instead of the amazing trope-subversion offered by Martin. I have been SO disappointed these last years. The Bron and Jaime “The Road to Dorne”…
Huh. I really liked it. It was fun.
Fair enough.
One of the things my wife and I noticed, which no one else seems to be seeing, is how the show has given over to standard television tropes. With the books and Martin’s guidance, A Song of Ice and Fire consistently avoided or played with tropes (the whole thing about knights in shining armor being total bastards…
Gaaaah! I hate when people who do not understand Elizabethan English try to mock intelligence by using it incorrectly!
None of these are terribly original jokes. It’s not hard to believe that more than one person came up with them independently.

Nah. Your response is typical. You can’t figure out how to make the program work properly (though millions of other people have no problem), so the program sucks, not you. How are those grapes, Ms. Fox? Probably sour, so don’t bother trying to eat them any more.
