I saw Hateful Eight in 70mm and was unimpressed with the cinematography. There were a few wide shots of the cabin that really popped but other than that it felt like a waste of the technology to me.

While the film ultimately makes the story more about Vikander's character, I felt it ping-ponged enough between the two for me to accept her nomination as Supporting.
Mara however was every bit of a lead as Blanchett was.

If you're a big Keaton fan, he has The Founder slated for Thanksgiving weekend where he gets to portray Ray Kroc, the man who schemed his way into the rights to McDonald's and paved the road it took to being the giant it is today.
Also: Weinstein is behind it, so it'll get huge push for sure.

Carol was guessed to be too distant for the West Coast branch of the Academy; New York-based groups heavily nominated the film and it did well with picking up BAFTA nominations.
Elba was up for supporting, with Attah pushed as the Best Actor candidate for the film.

Quentin was more toward the fringe of receiving a nomination; most predictions I saw had him somewhere in 7-10th most likely for directing.

Hanks also missed out for Captain Philips (although that was a more competitive year for the category) and Saving Mr. Banks.
He has a bunch of stuff that could come out this year though, including Sully, A Hologram for the King, The Circle and Inferno, so don't lose hope yet!
