I can somewhat agree about the structuring and the story framing, but despite that it wasn't a "really bad" movie. No it wasn't the Hank Williams story of his life people are expecting, but for what it was as an intimate look at his personal life and relationships it was pretty good and showed lots of potential had

Hiddleston is great and the movie is not that bad at all. It depends on what kind of movie you're expecting to see. This reviewer has gone overboard to trash it. Not saying it doesn't have problems, but it was still enjoyable to watch. It's a very high quality produced film, and the music is good too.

You just described a by the numbers biopic.

You're full of it Staff. The age difference was not a problem throughout the entire film. The difference between 23 and 29 in film narrative is not discernible.

Funny, if you think the reviews for I Saw The Light are bad, when High Rise comes out in US it's going to be eviscerated! It is not an easy movie to watch I hear from people that liked it, and there's been a lot of very strong negative reaction to it. I'm still going to see it cause it looks like great

I enjoyed the film too. I would not call it a standard Hollywood biopic which is more historical and broad scoped so as to cover all the personal and career milestones plus the music's impact on American culture. And usually "Hollywood" means a big studio budget, which again this film did not have.
But it's

He was pretty dam good I'd say. The movie may have had some trouble weaving everything together, but I thought it was still a pretty decent, quality movie especially when you factor in the singing and soundtrack compilations.

I don't know what movie you saw, but it wasn't a routine biopic. It was a narrow scoped, intimate look at Hank as a man not as a legend. If anything people were disappointed because they were expecting a more broad scope, historical biopic of Hank's life and his impact on American music.

That's why I can't stop talking about I Saw The Light. It's really the best performance of his career, but most people will only know him for Loki and now The Night Manager.

I Saw The Light is a much more quality film and script than Black Mass. And in all honesty you can't compare the two movies or the two lead actor performances. Depp's character was again another comical parody role. Whereas Hiddleston's Hank was a sincere, realism performance.

He should be promoting it, and people that enjoy quality work should go see it! I Saw the Light is not a bad movie. It was enjoyable to watch not just for the great acting performances but also for the music and the overall high quality production and film work. It may not be a home run, but it's still an engaging,

You don't have to hate people just because they're posh. It really doesn't solve the problem of economic inequality. It just re-enforces economic segregation.

He's not a Tory you jerk.

"horribly miscast"? Are you referring to I Saw The Light? Cause if you are then you're just plain wrong. He did a fine job. I'm actually the most impressed with his performance in this over everything else he's done so far - and I'm not saying that as an insult to his other work. Although I'm looking forward to

I was worried that he might not be able to pull it off since there was so many challenges for him to master for this role, but I've seen the movie now and he was freaking great! The best part about the movie and totally worth seeing just for the wonderful performances. And the movie is not bad at all. Just don't go

As he should be. It's a great role and was truly challenging for anyone to play especially someone from a different country and that's not a music performer. What I can't get over is having to change his voice register to a tenor. OMG that's hard, but it sounded pretty good in the end.

Yes. Any serious actor up for the challenge would relish a role like Hank W. There's always risks involved. If you pull it off well it's a hell of an accomplishment showing the depths of your skills. If it doesn't come off quite that well or just misses the mark the media can be brutal and perhaps even derail

I think this article is about promoting I Saw The Light specifically, and it deserves to be promoted. It really is a much better movie than was first given credit (Hank fans were especially disappointed it was subdued, intimate portrayal instead of the big historical biopic - see my comment below).

It's too bad they trashed it. I just saw it 3 days ago, and I really enjoyed it. It's an intimate view of Hanks personal life more than of his public life and career. Tom was terrific as Hank, and the film's soundtrack is really good too. Not saying it doesn't have some trouble winding up all the threads of HW's
