My opinion is that if you wanna mess with the EQ, do it, if you don’t, then don’t. If you’re doing mixing for a large band or concert, then EQ matters. If you’re just listening to music for your own enjoyment who cares if you’re good at it or if it’s “what the artist intended” Bad EQ is not the end of the world
