I believe they were trying to imitate the multi course prix fixe menus one commonly sees at Michelin star restaurants (Jiro serves a 20 course sushi tasting).
Much like in last season's "A Town, A Ganster, A Festival", I strangely found myself rooting harder for these characters than many real life documentary subjects.

How is he taking pleasure in getting her to do something she doesn't want to do? How do you know what she wants to do? What did she say that makes you think she wouldn't want to do a show like this/work with C.K.? Sounds like you're hearing something that isn't there because you are looking for it.

Couldn't agree more about the dub of Kiki's Delivery Service, Gigi's constant adlibbing made me think "this couldn't possibly be what the director intended" and forced me to track down the sub which is blessedly more restrained.
I've felt this about The Film Vault from pretty much the beginning but I still tune in every week.
