My Mom also said that. She said she learned it that way in school, which would have been in southern Ontario probably around 1960. I have no idea why it was considered important for Canadians kids to learn how to spell Mississippi.

It's seems like it's way more than 12 that are an overly detailed state seal (coat of arms), often with text! in or around the seal! Just horrible, horrible, flag design. I bet more than half of US state flags are like that.
