I got the impression that Poe may have just shown up to Finn’s mild surprise. Also, it felt like Finn reacted to the shoulder tap as if he had never felt the support and comradery of people fighting together for a righteous cause.

I would add to this, that in part, the synchronicity between the movie and novel, is due to Clark’s amazing writing talent. He was simultaneously writing both the book and screenplay to the tune of some 3000 words a day, while on set. Incredible. At least he/they were nominated for it.
