It is definitely the back end of an Excursion. Probably a lot simpler to use that than create a whole new rear end. Confused on why they used that and not an Expedition which I would think would be easier... I guess maybe it wasn't long enough unless they used the EL version, which is kinda ungainly looking.

That right there is the best angle of the A8- without the grille. I love the A8, I really do, and I turbo love the S8- but the grille is just a let down to me. It looks gaping.
