Let's not forget the classics: church functions and community gatherings like dances. The best part is that they tend to be multigenerational.

This is definitely not for everyone, but joining a religious community should be on the list. I moved to a big city out of college and knew a grand total of 1 person. Then I became involved in a church, and those folks have become my closest friends (plus I’ve been able to explore my own feelings about religion with

yeah... OMG! 1 star- place was SO busy! too loud, too crowded, had to wait for food during dinner rush!

Having had friends who worked at Yelp (and yes, the horror stories and extortion are true, according to them), you can probably get your account back if you contact them, reviews and all.

I’m so with you. I do tend to read those 1 star reviews, and so many of them are spurious and based in selfishness.

True selfishness, like “my drink did not come immediately after i merely THOUGHT it in my mind”. Posting a review of someone who actually performs poorly - unprofessional, late, messy, etc - seems

Yeah, and the people with crooked business have a vesting interested and the time to waste getting bad reviewed down-voted or removed for “violation of terms”. I tried to have an engine rebuilt at a shop in Knoxville, Tn that took well over a year and $12k, I eventually had to have my lawyer send a letter to get him

I guess then it depends on the type of business. To me, restaurants are mostly subjective. There are some standards to uphold, but I’m the kind of person who doesn’t care as long as the minimum quality was reached.

Agreed, but there’s a difference between a one star review for “My drink took 10 minutes” and one star review for “I’m out $1000 and this contractor did a shit job I have to pay even more money to fix.” One is overkill, the other is probably not.

They taught us about interest rates and compounding and investments and mortgages in high school. What they didn’t teach us is how to simply balance a checkbook, budget, and keep track of one’s own money.
