But that’s not a new thing this season. The built on ships and social media thing was clearly around in season two when it became all about bughead or barchie or vughead or hashtagging darkbetty. And they bogged down otherwise compelling plots with all that ship nonsense.

Maybe it would have been better if he had threatened Hiram to stay away from Archie so Archie could have come back before he ran off and got mauled by a bear. But, yeah, ‘trying’.

To be fair even when they use him they never get any further than gay-plot device.

Not sure I’d give the episode an A- but it definitely was a lot better than last week’s. Also, I’d just like to pump up my own tires by saying that I commented last week how I hoped Hiram would be killed off and now he’s been shot. Now, I just hope they go through with and kill him off because he needs to go. The

Wow, they deadass basically just retconned that quarantine. I’m honestly... a little impressed they did that? Like they set it up as their big cliffhanger for the midseason finale and then it was just over. Didn’t see that coming.

Even though I really though the Riverdale writers should have backed the truck of money up to Neve Campbell’s house to get her to play Jughead’s mom, I really liked Gina Gershon. She at least had the screen presence to liven up the Archie-Jughead plot, which was pretty poor last episode. The rest of it was okay; I

First Aid Kit, Distant Star:

I try to be objective when assessing TV shows so on the one hand I can see the transparent attempt the writers are making to try and make Archie’s Luke Cage-esque story work by including a lot of unnecessary shirtless scenes to distract from the fact Archie has never been a compelling character and that his whole

I agree that it is interesting when Sweet Pea is compared to Josie because he towers over her; but to be fair to the issue of size discrepancy: Cheryl struts around in heels and Toni is really short but I think we’ve all gotten used to that

Is Penny still a Bar-certified lawyer? Because her quality of life could be so much better than it is.” Okay, you got me to laugh out loud with that one; so glad you’re back reviewing this show for this season, LaToya (even if it devolves into another beautiful, terrible, stupid mess again)

I’ll miss the reviews and the ensuing discussions in the comments here; hopefully there might still be a review for the midseason finale or finale and we can talk about how much better the show got after it started filling some of the longer season with more character-focused light-on-action episodes, like last

I don’t care what anyone says, I love the cuckoos and the “well behaved women rarely make history” in triple speak was just awesome.

Did anyone else find the scene where Kimmy was about to “murder” her backpack super sad and disturbing? Because that one messed me up. I’m really glad it didn’t end up happening and that Kimmy was inspired by the boy who read her book.

Leave it to Cheryl to turn the scream queen trope of stupidly running up the stairs from the killer on its head. And then after she’s already basically episode MVP, she still shows up to save Toni and just seem happy to be there for the whole serpent meeting. They obviously still give her some pretty questionable

I still liked this episode better than a lot of crap from the mid-season but it was a definite step down from the last two. Among the positives: this is the best Sierra has ever been. Negatives: the new sheriff is either bad or obviously being paid by Hiram or both; I bet both!

I can rationalize it by saying the picture is less scary now that he is in custody and we know he’s just a sad old man, but I really still think that thumbnail needs a warning.

I think it says something that in this second half of the season, which has had a lot of parts that don’t work, and been overall underwhelming compared to the first half and especially the first season, Chic has been one the worst parts.

I agree with both points, especially about Veronica and Cheryl. I actually think that was the episode where some of her problematic characterization from this season was dropped in favour of a reboot and then the musical episode cemented it.

I have to disagree with your point about the show wanting the audience to care about Chic and feel bad that he was given to the black hood; I didn’t see it that way at all. Instead I thought it was a very deliberate attempt to give a moment of catharsis to a plot line never worked. Hence the callback to Ms. Grundy

Yeah, the overall episode wasn’t the best but Laurie saying “if you lose to that, Richard, look inward” had me laughing for a solid minute. I really wish Suzanne Cryer and Amanda Crew were used more.
