How is it possible that VW hasn’t come forward with an aggressive offer for current dealers of dirty diesels? As one such owner, I’ve been waiting for manufacturers like Hyundai to step forward as they recently did, but I’m left scratching my head that VW hasn’t put out one iota on this. Seems like a big miss to me.

5th gear: Coincidence that VW’s major announcement of going all ‘lectric precedes attempt to wrap up Dieselgate and avoid hefty government fines? Pretty sure one of the things environmental groups were pushing for was VW’s investment in electric infrastructure in the States...

I honestly think the “beak shield” works fine on their crossovers but they needed a change for their cars. Can’t our brains/eyes handle two diff corporate faces?

Great review Jason. Am very curious to hear more about the hybrid, did you get to drive it and any info on price?

Indeed, commissioned by Bugs himself.

Meet Pontiac Aztek’s son.

I had so hoped to see a VW concept that could put some personality back in large - minivan, crossovers, suvs- vehicles, so this micro-van just doesn’t cut it for me. Any chance I can be un-greyed?

Hate the game, not the players.

Ditto here in KC, shocked at how local dealers wouldn’t budge on price.

As I’m leasing my smog machine, let me out of my lease, stat.

Jason, agree that VW needs to move in this direction but to make this a viable product you’d have to have some range-extending device ala the Volt as these would be used by soccer moms to haul their brood around. They’d have to make these things as fool-proof as possible.

First off, how about amending your rules and write about your experience test driving the top 5 (or 10) suggestions as that should provide some interesting commentary on some undoubtedly unique/crazy cars... And for my suggestion, buy the poster child car for Jalopnik, aka a brown, diesel wagon with stick shift.
