I agree. Nothing is wrong with the game that will kill it but there’s a whole lot of room between “the patient is in terminal condition” and “everything’s ok”.

Further proof the NHL doesn’t take drug testing seriously. It’s an open secret that a significant number of players in the league use cocaine. It only comes to the surface when a player gets arrested (Stoll, Malone, etc.) or ends up in a vague rehab program (Dubinsky).

Forgetting the dogs for a moment, these people were exploited. Paid a pittance by investor-dog owners, who probably took in the big bucks. No retirement, no health care, no nothing. It’s maddening this still happens in this country.  

I spent 10 years working for a non-profit, and my wife has spent her entire career in academia. Yes, donations are sometimes styled as an “investment” in some cause. I have never, however, heard donors referred to as “investors.” That’s a little too naked for my taste.
