The difference between a merge and a yield is the number of people responsible. In a yield, one person waits until an opening, then goes. In a merge, BOTH parties (merger and merge-ee) need to act appropriately.

I have the same MacBook (if it's unibody). After about 6 months, she gets clogged to all high-heaven with dust. Our 'books are INCREDIBLY easy to open (screws out, and nothing else) so it would absolutely be worth it to blow it out from the inside. After 4 years, you probably want to do it outside.

I use XP at work and OSX at home. But XP feels and looks as old as it is now.
