Yeah. The character we spent the whole film rooting for is still dead. Her best friend is still dead. It’s not like we’re talking about an unequivocally happy ending.

And what about the Wild West? Many now recognize that it was part of the long genocide of Native Americans, but does that mean that anybody who goes to a party dressed like Clint Eastwood’s Man With No Name is racist?
Wait... Bette Midler played Diana Ross? That seems ill-advised.
I disagree. As soon as I realized that she wasn’t going to make it, I thought “She set up some automatic emails to go out, right?” Given the character, it would have been more unrealistic if she hadn’t taken that step I think.
Another vote on the “definitely check it out” side. It’s quite good.
Yep. And the descendants of those same people now have the nerve to accuse people of “erasing history” when they try to undo the damage.
Absolutely. As I said, it’s a very ignorant. Unfortunately, we live in a society where a lot of white people are that ignorant because they’ve never had to confront the realities of racism. Out of sight, out of mind.
Still less absurd than real Nascar driver Dick Trickle.
Matt presumably didn’t know about the photo when he picked her. Also, Harrison did a little more than say “give her a chance.” He argued about it with a black woman, telling her that we didn’t know plantation parties were racist in the long ago days of 2018.
Lots of ladies seem to like John David Washington. Though he keeps his a bit more trimmed.
Mine too. But it’s less for aesthetics and more so she doesn’t get stabbed by spiky beard hairs.
Yeah. That's a good point.
From what I understand, the party was held on a plantation and they all wore dresses from the Antebellum era, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't meant to evoke slavery. Obviously, thinking you can have an Antebellum party and not evoke slavery is very ignorant, which is part of the problem.
I wonder if they would have broken up if the whole thing hadn’t become a huge controversy. If he’d just discovered it on her Facebook page or something, would it be an immediate deal-breaker? What if she said she was pressured into attending and felt icky about it the whole time? From the linked After the Rose…
She had those too, but she explained it away by saying she was farting on Trump as a form of protest.
It’s not reality for everyone. The divorce rate has actually dropped in recent years and is lower in younger generations who tend to wait later to get married than it was for boomers. It still happens of course, but it’s not a certainty by any means.
That’s pretty dark for a Friday, man. Though I suppose it’s month 12.
I let my parents use my account because they’re retired and don’t have any money coming in.
I agree with you on the not having kids part, but pooling your resources as a couple is so much better than being single. I felt way more secure financially once I got married and added that second income to my household. Now that we both have moderately better jobs and still no kids, we’re expecting Robin Leach to…
What a dork. If that’s his idea of toxic, I don’t know how he’s surviving on the internet in 2021. Though I guess it makes sense that the guy thinking a millionaire NBA player was a victim of “cancel culture” after he used a slur on a livestream would confuse people calmly telling him he’s wrong with “toxicity.”
