Or maybe they just really liked the movie?
Or maybe they just really liked the movie?
I know, right? Really heartbreaking. And then to have a loved and respected political figure call you overrated on Twitter? Poor Meryl's been through a lot.
No love for Lucas Hedges? I thought he was fantastic. Really sold all the conflicting emotions someone would have going through the death of a loved one without playing it stereotypically.
Beautiful cinematography and great performances by Ledger and Gyllenhaal, but the film itself didn't totally work for me. Too slow and meandering. Although I haven't seen it since it was in theaters and I was 25 at the time, so maybe I'd have a different opinion if I saw it now.
Boo. Lucas Hedges was great.
Remember the Titans.
You'd think the Scorsese pedigree would be enough to overcome all that. Although I suppose he didn't actually win his first Oscar until a few years ago.
I was thinking she was the new Meryl, but I guess Meryl won on her second time out. There was a huge gap between Meryl's second win and her third though. She was Susan Lucci from '84 through 2012.
I mostly just think it's fun that Ruth Negga went from hamming it up on Agents of Shield to being nominated for an Oscar in the space of a year. Did not see that performance coming.
She was definitely great. Arrival was my favorite film of the year. Though I've missed a bunch of big ones. La La Land is the only Best Actress movie I've seen, actually, so I can't really compare her to the actual nominees.
I agree that Amy Adams was snubbed, but she's been nominated five times since 2006, three of those nominations this decade. And she wasn't going to win for this one anyway. Let's not feel too sad for her.
Usually for something to be mansplaining, the man has to be explaining the topic to a woman who objectively knows as much or more than he does, right? It's not really mansplaining when you legitimately know a lot more about something than the other person. Although one can clearly still be a dismissive, sexist jerk…
Not enough bracelets. Like 37 not enough.
I missed that one. Didn't read Secret Avengers at all. I actually liked Lemire and Perez's All-New Hawkeye somewhat. The flash-forward stuff in the second volume got weird though. I'm glad Kate has her own comic now. She kind of kicked off the wave of every single Marvel hero having a legacy counterpart.
Sure. Again, the event was not what I'd call good. But it's more of a C- to me than an F. Although I can see why you'd feel differently if you're heavily invested in Carol. I haven't read the solo Captain Marvel comics, so I didn't really have a strong a reaction to her being stupid at times. I feel like Marvel every…
Fraction and Aja set the bar too high. Anything he's been in since has been disappointing.
The art in this latest issue was pretty great though. And I thought they did a better job of showing Carol's side than they had previously. Still a miss overall, but not the unmitigated disaster people are making it out to be I don't think.
Picking out the word "scary" from what I said isn't really fair. I said it's hard to make them a credible threat when they've lost dozens of times already over numerous decades. That's the reason for the Doom face turn, in my opinion. How do you top Doom becoming a God of his own planet? How do you go bigger than…
Nah… He has a new book called Occupy Avengers. It's not doing much for me so far though.
I think a lot of that is a natural consequence of a decades-long ongoing story. It's hard to take any of the supervillains as a credible threat when they've all lost so many times. That's why so many classic villains are being used for comedic purposes like in The Superior Foes of Spider-Man. How do you make a villain…
