I would think the G limits were there to limit long term fatigue of the airframe, rather than as structural failure limits. As the article states, the SR-71’s skin would heat up to 900 degrees and the entire aircraft would stretch by 6”. Over and over and over. Titanium was used to limit this as much as possible, but…
IIRC, the 2.5g limit was because the engines would stall out if you pulled higher g’s. It would push the boundary of the shock layer out of position and cause an unstart.
It just does
true. they don’t really care about driving anymore.
I think that most people had a false hope that Ford would use a stretched Mustang platform which would also be used for the next generation Taurus and Falcon in Australia. This would finally be a worthy successor of the Panther. But of course that was never going to happen, much like the term, “fetch.”
You’re right. It’s appropriate for the buyer and the platform is designed to optimize existing hardware for best profitablility. I’m sure the numbers were carefully calculated- a rear wheel drive platform cost of development, exclusive parts, target sales price, amortization, focus group comparison study of estimated…
Tesla was able to increase their acceleration through the use of Inconel which is a high temperature material used by Spacex for their various high temperature rocket parts. The properties of Inconel allow more amperage to be transferred from the battery without the connection overheating and arcing.
Seriously, the sole measure of a bike is it’s braking power?
Actually, it is an insult to suggest that someone enjoys Pinesol. You still don’t get it.
I think an example of what pauljones is trying to say can be found by watching a cooking show. There, chefs will often taste food prepared by another. When they taste it, they will generally describe the feeling. It is salty, nutty, savory, sweet, velvety, spicy, etc. in an effort to make the viewer understand what…
You’ll have to excuse me for not qualifying my problems with the bikes more, and in a gentler way, but I wasn’t aware I needed to be so careful not to hurt people’s feelings with my stating “this is how I experience them, but I would like to understand how you do so please tell me.”
Part of what it takes to have an intelligent debate is to understand what the other person thinks. I wasn’t trying to distance myself from anything, merely acknowledge my beliefs about the matter so that people who felt differently could respond with a response more refined than “because I like it.”
The fact is that people ride for a range of different reasons. Your view on what’s important about riding is just narrow. I’m a Sportster owner. 1200 custom.
For what it’s worth, here’s my take:
When asking how to review cruisers, I would say Lemmie from Revzilla is probably my favorite current bike reviewer for cruisers - the issue many cruiser riders have with the reviews the bikes get is they are done by people who either only like sport bikes or if they like cruisers they only like Harley’s. A review…
I used to hate Harley’s, for the same reasons everyone mentions, they aren’t fast, the don’t handle particularly well and in general the culture around them isn’t all that...appealing, but when it came time to buy a more reliable bike than my 82 XJ750, my dad somehow convinced me to buy the Sportster. I wanted more of…
First off, I don’t love HD. But I do understand why some people do. They are well suited to the American roadscape, where anything over 90 will never really happen and most of the slower riding is stoplight to stoplight. For the long, slow, ENJOYABLE ride through the country, where half the fun is just looking at the…
My first motorcycle (1990) was a 1971 Honda 750 F. Rode it forever. Loved it. —FF 2014— Time to buy a new (another) motorcycle. Test drove the following (1.) Kawi Versys ~$5k used, (2.) Vstrom 650 & 1000 ~$5-$8K used, (3.) 07 Dyna bagger, ~$7k. (4).07 Buell XB12 ~$5k, (5.) Buell Ulys ~$5k, (6.) 09 HD XR 1200 ~$8k.…
