Think of who buys the camry though. I don't think a 65 year old grandfather would want a Turbo AWD Manual Compact, but rather a refined, cheap to maintain, easy to drive, mid-size sedan. Just because we want WRX, doesn't mean everyone else does.

It's just the Haterade they've been drinking. Some people need to realize that driving a Camry doesn't mean you can't love tyre-burning, engine-rumbling sports cars. Everything you say is true. But the only thing manual steering gives up to the assisted variety in a very lightweight car, is the opportunity to use an automatic dampening effect at speed. Otherwise, there is no advantage. Only the disadvantage of weight. Which can be considerable.
