Let me nerd out for a sec.
I can see why, from the Jalopnik commentariat point of view, words like boring and appliance are negative toward the car, but I don't read them as judgmental of the buyers. While Travis openly states that he doesn't understand the preferences of people who would buy a Corolla, I don't think he crossed the line of…
Yep. I made the mistake of defending the Corolla yesterday in a different article, and the jalops came out to eviscerate me. Thing is, they weren't really successful.
CLOSE BUT NOT QUITE, OKULSKI
The only reason it gets lauded here is because it was rear drive, something only (the royal) we care about.
As a vehicle for the car-buying public, the Panther is woefully behind the Toyota Avalon, Chrysler 300/Dodge Charger, Nissan Maxima, et al, that it competed against.
Because Mr. Brt,
I posted this in a reply to Raph yesterday but it applies to this as well so I'll repost:
For Sweden said it perfectly. The truck industry is the Corolla all over again. Same shit, different year. Why aren't we crying about that?
The approach needs to be similar to Hyundai or Mercedes-Benz (the former raising the bar from the shitty 90's cars, the latter saving themselves from the awful quality of their cars in the 00's).
Becoming a luxury brand, I think, is actually pretty complex. Because it's not about features in the car. It's about how the car makes the driver feel. It has to stoke his ego. It has to make him feel rich. To the designers, that means a delicate balance of alot of things: a clean but unique design, an interior…
I think that when you run stories like this you should do more to highlight the original article. You've basically taken all of their content and rewritten, and your link back to the original is hard to find.
You're making broad, sweeping statements of opinion. However, the facts are the facts. Did you have some facts which would dispute any of what has been said, thus far?
WILL LEGISLATE 4 FOOD ANYTHING HELPS GOD BLESS
"The dual-clutch is probably the transmission I'd pick, but I will feel a little nostalgic about another stick shift going off into the sunset with nary a funeral." This is the perfect example of why the entire argument for manual transmissions is so pointless. 'I want you to project the idea that you are a minute…
Hey Travis, from the linked article:
I've said it before, they are a business. They have shareholders and accountants to answer to.
No manual trans makes perfect sense. It's faster, more efficient and is a progression in tech. I am big fan of manual transmissions. But...as with everything, times are changing. We are still able to change gears...just not like we used to.
Hell, the Model S broke the testing machine for roof crush protection. What the hell is it made of? Boron? What exactly is boron? I don't think anyone knows.
