And it went so well we got Ishtar two years later.

It really matters when either the person’s ethnicity is a key part of the story, or when the ethnicity concerned is one that suffers from either general discrimination or specific under representation in films. I’m more relaxed in other circumstances. But getting upset about non-white actors playing white roles does…
I went to see this not expecting much, but it’s really quite charming and funny.

Just saw this last night. I know there’s talk of law suits around this film, but I’m surprised George Lucas isn’t involved. A large chunk of the plot/themes seem to be lifted from A New Hope. When Cruise is saying “Don’t think, just do” I was tempted to shout out “Use the force Luke”.
More recently and a lot closer to home. Although I think Tom Cruise just released that movie.
Now I’m quite fond of the Steve Martin version (and even the sequel) but I draw the line at “hilarious”. “Amusing and heart-warming” is the way I’d describe it.
I’d be surprised if they don’t already know the answer, but if they really believe it might be related to porn, then that’s probably why they haven’t googled it.

Growing up in the UK it was a really common insult, short for (the also commonly used insult) spastic. It went out of fashion for years but has crept back in a bit (possibly due to younger people not being aware of the history of its usage).
