Plenty of time to move to Otisburg.

As long as it's Bella and not Bellus (a/k/a Bronson Alpha)

We're more likely to screw up the Moon than some asteroid anyways...

Brother Maynard, fetch the Holy Hand Grenade!

I don't know about the actual book, but this review makes it sound like the author cracked open the Big Book of Formulaic Action/Adventure Subplots and poured them all into one book, making it more discouraging than encouraging for me to give it a read.

OH no! MOLSON BREATH! Gaaaagh! The horror.... ;)

I hope I'm dreaming this now. Seems I just fell asleep after lights-out on my cell block and now here I am typing on some weird plastic toy typewriter connected to a really flat television showing me what I'm typing as I type it. Now over here's some little box that I bumped with my hand that makes an arrow move

The events in the episode are shown out-of-order from the book, probably to re-acquaint the viewers with the most popular (or infamous) characters early-on and save the new ones for later (like Stannis, Davos, Mellisandra, Cressen, who were featured in the prologue of the book). Other than the "eye-candy" moments,

There was an extended recap at the beginning of the show to bring viewers "up-to-date", and an extended teaser for upcoming episodes at the end. Also, previews of three-or-four of HBO's other "lesser" efforts got in the way too.

It's probably because the theme is cut to fit the opening credits, which also serve as a "clockwork" map to where the action will be, and this varies. Also, since this particular episode had an extended recap, that might have affected the timing as well.

Eh—not—exactly. If you want an idea of what FTA (free-to-air) tv would be like, watch basic cable. Do you see plenty of well-written, serious, shows with a sweet smattering of soft-core and George Carlin's "seven words"? Actually, in the absence of federal regulation, the marketplace still regulates content. In

There was a time I would actually agree with Cosmic, and why I avoided made-for-premium shows because they'd be over-laced with sexual content simply because they could get away with it (one of the reasons I spurned BSG at-first was because at first it seemed like it would be just a sexed-up version of the original,

Grrr! Needs a spoiler warning about (spoiler ahead!) Jaime's hand (afik they still were okay 100 pages into SoS)

The official word for what you're describing is "spaghettification". It's very unlikely you'd live long enough to consciously enjoy the experience though. By then the gravity effects will be causing extinction-level atmospheric disturbances from the air, water, debris, and particulate matter being pulled in around

All (or at least most) of the RISK games I've played wind-up wars of attrition where someone attacks one or two countries just to draw a card and eventually players are forced to turn them in to get the army bonuses. The bonus goes up each time and eventually someone winds up with a 50+ army bonus and sweeps the

" I mean, the guy doesn't even bother putting on a fake British accent so he can sound "ancient Greek."

Another big problem with Hollywood horror films is the cultural chasm they dig between the teenagers and adults in the films. It's always "something bad is happening to the kids and the adults are skeptical, suspicious, presumptuous, dumb, and wrong!" Yeah, it's supposed to make the kids identify with how they feel

The best part is I can associate all the clips to scenes from the book, some with line-for-line dialogue, which means they are staying mostly faithful to it. And—if they are—then the last one-or-two episodes of this season will be—EPIC!

I think it would depend on whether or not the colony had space-travel capabilities or were planet-bound to make it a "space" opera.

Hey! No love for "Forbidden Planet"?
