My theory on why Chloe ends up in a wheelchair is because of a car accident. Her father bought her a nice car and Chloe crashed it... But who else could be affected by this car accident, Joyce. Chloe killed Joyce in the accident. Max will have to make a choice to go back and return the timeline to its original state.

Pretty sure the Matthew bible answer gets her off the ledge regardless of every other answer, if you can talk to her long enough to get to it.
