The ridiculous part is how it fits someone who is a bad guy. Villains with descriptive names is an old-fashioned trope that modern writers like to poke fun at.

Oh yeah, I suppose the Rick Jones arc falls a bit flat (until the great ending you pointed out). I tend to forget about it and just think of the book as nearly perfect, everything else is so strong.
He walks away when she gives him the big news. Not that I take issue with him not wanting to stay in the relationship, but the way he ends it is just too abrupt and does his character a disservice.

Her character was already severely diminished in The Pulse, the direct follow-up to Alias. It's a shame.
