The Macross Plus 4-part OVA is a real banger. It’s based on the real-life competition in the USAF between the teams building the F-22 Raptor and the F-23. The movie is a splice and dice job, cutting the original together in a not-as-satisfying combo.

How to watch Robotech? Easy, DONT. Just look for all macross Series and Movies, there are many hours and stories there, dont try to undestand a forced story 

I've heard Mari Ijima in concert. It was amazing to hear "Do You Remember Love?" performed live. And I have an autographed picture of Minmay. Her Minmay, while still basically the same character, was a lot less whiny and a lot more bearable!

It diverges immensely in one VERY key part. The meaning of ‘protoculture’.  What Macek did, dumbed things down incredibly.  Instead of a story about a vast ancient culture that seeded all the different intelligent species of the galaxy, we get a story about a magical super powered substance.

Idk man, to get the full Robotech story you diverge greatly from Macross, especially with Shadow Chronicles compared to like Macross Frontier. “How to watch Robotech?” You don’t. You step over it (Careful not to get any on your shoes), and watch Macross and it’s sequels instead of letting Harmony Gold get one more red cent after holding the IP hostage for decades.

Seconding the other comments, basically you should watch the original Macross vs Robotech.

I think the most important question this article fails to either ask or answer is “why should we watch Robotech over the original Macross?” the answer is you shouldn’t. instead you should just find Macross and it’s sequels somewhere are watch those instead.

Basically the real advice is to skip Robotech and watch all the rad Macross stuff. From the original series to the gorgeous movie adaptation Do You Remember Love? to Macross Plus. I don’t see any mention of “Macross Plus.” My friends and I watched it when it first came out, and we really enjoyed it. The soundtrack to it is amazing as well. :)  I occasionally watch my DVD’s of it.  Just wish they had a Blu-ray of it.
