Why shouldn’t the girls who can take private lessons take them? It should be about getting the best team possible so that you can win. My high school team we had to take 2 hours of tumbling a week. Plus you needed at least a backhandspring to make the team. But that’s what works we were one of the top 10 teams in our

All star cheer got provisional status!!! But its wayyy differnt from school cheer. All star is a higher level usually and more training

Competition fees are expensive. Cheer in general is very pricy. When I did all star it was over 2000 each season and high school was about 750

Depends on the state. IL now has a state series and teams are no longer allowed to go to most national competitions (and the athletes are not allowed to be on all star teams either). Other states with state series do allow their teams to go with varying levels of financial support. And finally the majority of states

Yep. 20+ years ago when I was a cheerleader, then on my school’s pom squad, we paid for everything. I washed cars, work concessions at bingos, sold candy, etc., etc., to buy new uniforms, poms, pay for camp, and competitions. We had a squad treasurer for chrissakes, who kept track of all the spending and fund

I knocked 2 teeth out in cheerleading and split my lip open... just during an average practice. This was also in the 90s when it was still somewhat tame. I look back and think DEAR GOD HOW DID I SURVIVE WITHOUT A HEAD INJURY?! I read somewhere, and I could be totally wrong but whatever, that Cheerleading has more

I was not familiar with this but I’m digging in deep right now! Thank you *very* much.

I loved it then, too!

Hi! I’m the teacher that sent this in! Thank you SO SO much to everyone who is saying positive things and/or donating. We are so very grateful. The coaches have been dancing around the office as donations started coming in and I guess NBC called this morning. We appreciate your love and support and well-wishes. If you

I can never watch cheerleading. Don’t get me wrong. I admire them. But I always turn away with cringe and go, “Someone is going to miss and land on their neck! Someone is going to miss and land on their neck!”

There is also a complete asshole who cheerfully used the term “already bratty teenagers” to shit on this whole story and openly mocks anyone who donates as “stupid” because this is nothing but a cry for a free vacation or some shit.

This is kind of the story of sports teams all over the country now. We have a high school in our area in a well-to-do district that recently spent over $500,000 on a new locker room specifically for the kids on the varsity football and basketball teams. The perennial Division I winners in the state championships are

I love hearing about people who love their work. Sounds like you do amazing stuff and I’m glad there are people like you in this world!

Troll alert: Please avoid feeding the individual who keeps commenting that Jezebel doesn’t cover enough stories about white people. And if you must comment, perhaps you can provide him/her a link to Bo Bice’s website so that they can cry together.

That’s awesome! Thanks for all you do!

Donating to this. Especially after reading some of the awful comments on the Kickstarter like “maybe next year.”

My high school got rid of our team partially for this reason.

This is lovely. And extra close to my heart.

Oh jeez, they have guts, especially when the team may not have the same access to safety equipment and health care like the richer schools do. Good luck!

Does this have anything to do with that damn cheer-tator, Torrance?
