Thank you so much for writing this. While I don’t have children, I have immediate family, a great circle of friends, and a boyfriend. In addition, I have a full-time job that routinely goes past 45 hours a week in work time, plus freelance writing. And I love to read. Put that all together, and the time to invest in

It doesn’t take much for me to get back into a Beastie Boys mood, music-wise. This article did just that.

I’ll be honest, I’m elated to see these reviews. Even the “low” 9 reviews give me hope. I took a few days off work to play this. After Mass Effect: Andromeda (true, that did not benefit from early buzz) and No Man’s Sky (even though I know that game has gotten exponentially better), I’ve been very skeptical of any

I’m about a little more than a third of the way into Hanya Yanagihara’s A Little Life. I understand it’s a polarizing book, but count me in the category of “pro.” It’s a beautiful read.

I definitely fell into that high school (and even half of college) unintended “entitled” mindset of “He treats her like shit, and ‘I’ am the one who’s single!” (e.g. the fact the mere fact that you’re not a douchebag entitles you to the girl of your dreams). Of course, that was also while I was struggling with my

Great review. Thanks.

Waiting to get some feelers on the new Kurt Vile. It’s been getting “average” reviews, but it could either be because it’s “average” or the traditional lazy critic tendency to taper off enthusiasm after an artist’s later releases (e.g. ‘Daze’ is an amazing epic, worthy of the artists Vile so loves, ‘...going down’

Yeah, the guy who spread the ridiculous claim about my father, and who insulted my wife... well, I’d like to tell you a bit more about him, and why you should vote for him, and not a centrist Democrat who could easily run as a Republican in probably 40 out of the 50 states in our union.

Yeah. I definitely suspended some disbelief in sake of a good story for that one. But I was thinking Gus has already sank so much of his money and resources into that pit. To have a (relatively) new employee, regardless of how competent he has been say “it’s my bad, I’ll take care of it” - in my mind, all I could

Awesome points. Coincidentally, over lunch, I was reading A Little Life, where there was a law school discussion (of course it happens in law school) - between what is fair, and what is right.

I think that’s a great point. I just started Season 2 of the Americans. I would definitely say that Jesse was pulled into the light, especially when Mike began to fill that fatherly role that Walter was incapable of filling post “Box Cutter” episode. At least right now, I don’t think Jimmy has been pulled into the

It’s selfish, but I so hope for another full season with Rhea Seehorn. If anything, I would love to see a separate post Breaking Bad series where it’s focused on Kim.

This was an amazing, beautiful episode - and very much worthy of the best season finales of Breaking Bad. The only drawback to the episode is the “prequel” structure - we all know Mike survives this slip-up. While watching it, I was trying to suspend my disbelief, and “will” myself to genuinely worry about Mike’s

Absolutely - Werner:Mike as Jesse:Walter. Both Werner and Jesse made mistakes that in the Gus world were fatal. The kinship wasn’t as prevalent with Mike and Werner, but Mike definitely saw someone who he identified with, and was willing to go out on a limb for. But the person pulling the strings has always been Gus.

Without listening to a note of this album (though I am a big Cat Power fan) - judging by their traditional grading arc for long-established acts... Predicted Pitchfork rating for this album: 6.4.

Godddamnit. I will do a spell check and a grammar check from now on. And no more posting 5 minutes before I fall asleep.

Spot on. Come to think of it, this entire scene seemed to be an allegory for the 2016 election (except Clinton won the popular vote). On paper, your qualifications are there. You certainly said the right things when you needed to (during the debates). But, we’ve decided to pursue another candidate, because you didn’t

Thanks - I was typing so quickly, I neglected to do a grammar check (or spell-check, apparently). Will correct this as soon as I get home (because apparently, I can’t edit a comment on a different computer).

Jimmy’s interview is entirely relatable for any person who has “aced” a job interview. You’ve gone from a job interview to a friendly conversation with the people you want to impress. And it seems like a conversation. And you hear those words “we just have a few more interviews to go, and then we’ll get back to you.”

And sort of Alan Ball’s stock in trade in the ‘90s and early ‘00s, he did a similar thing with David in Six Feet Under. For at least the first half of the series, David was the uber-responsible, and almost painfully boring counterpart to his brother, Nate. David and Keith’s relationship, at least for season 1,
