This is good old-fashioned trash talk, and maybe it’s the start of something American baseball has never had: an international rivalry.

Sometimes I fantasize about a time when baseball would return to the top of American sports interests and the NFL is relegated to a niche somewhere slightly above where NHL stands right now. This is mostly out of a desire to bask in the schadenfreude of seeing Goodell’s bumbling empire burn to the ground. But baseball…

When I started working (many years ago) my department formed a fantasy baseball league, which was led by one of the top bosses.

This WBC has been a ton of fun. For baseball-starved fanactics, it has definitely filled the void better than spring training. Definitely not saying it’s some super prestigious tournament that will rival the World Cup some day but at least the games have been competitive and fun to watch.

That does taint the goal somewhat.

My dad is a (retired) psychiatrist and the #1 best person in the world, but he will not give up us marijuana prejudice. He claims to have seen it ruin more lives than alcohol during his career. I can’t refute his personal experience as a practitioner but it drives me nuts because there is no science to back it up.

It is 2017, we must stop litigating marijuana. The rank hypocrisy of a culture in which we are inundated with positive and affirming messages about alcohol and demonize every thing else is pure folly. Don’t like gay marriage? Don’t marry someone of the same gender. Don’t like marijuana? Don’t consume it. Problem…

They only reason they want to build all this stuff is to create defense jobs in their district to boost re-election odds. The armed forces are getting hardware they don’t even want.
