Why is that good? LA could hold the Olympics without building any new arenas or stadiums that haven’t already been planned, so it would very likely turn a profit.

That makes no sense. If they wanted a European car, why not buy a Mercedes or BMW or Audi, which all have a higher brand cachet? There’s really no reason to buy a Volvo over those three other than the safety angle.
If you think about it, knowing that your kids are shittier drivers and are more precious than yourself, it does make sense to give them the safest car in the household stable.

I take a good hard look when crossing intersections because there are always dumbasses who don’t turn on their headlights at night out here in LA, so I’d imagine I’d have spotted the red and blues from a few…
They may be “sport” models, but they’re still front wheel drive, which puts them behind the eight-ball when being compared to BMW/MB/Audi (ok, maybe not Audi).

I thought that was Volvo.
Or they could just design cars to be safe rather than to just pass tests. See Volvo: the XC90 designed 13 years ago was able to ace these new tests because they actually put a priority on safety.
